Why did you purchase this home in the first place?

Hillary: When asked why we bought our mountain home the answer was and is still simple…we love Estes Park and all things about enjoying the great outdoors from hiking to fly-fishing to snow shoeing and so much more! After 30+ years of day-tripping and/or renting in Estes for a night or two, we decided to take a leap of faith and buy our own place to enjoy and share with family and friends.

Bob: We bought this home because of its location, the property and floor plan. With the location being just minutes from either end of town and either entrance to RMNP we were never far from entertainment or taking in all that Estes has to offer. Many homes in Estes have great views but the views from the deck of this home are spectacular and peaceful all year long!

What did you enjoy most about living here?

Hillary: What we’ve enjoyed most about living in Estes is simple. Peace. The peace we’ve experienced while relaxing in front of the wood-burning fireplace or sipping a cup of coffee on the deck (for hours) has been unsurpassed. Our property view looking at unobstructed protected land is amazing. Taking in the sunsets and cloud formations coming off of Long’s Peak and The Crags is breathtaking. Watching the colors change through the seasons, particularly in Autumn with the numerous swaths of Aspen groves across the road, is awe-inspiring. Peaceful beauty!

Bob: We really appreciated one-level living, wide open spaces and privacy.

How long have you owned this home?

We’ve owned our home for three marvelous years.

Do you have a favorite memory or event that happened at your home?

There are so many favorite memories that they are too many to list! The “Rut” is always a fun time of year when the local bulls are building their harems and our property is a popular hangout for the local elk! On one particular evening with our home filled with family and friends we were all woken with the sounds of a large (six by six) elk bugling and snorting right outside the windows! When you can hear breathing…they’re close! Adding to the wildlife stories, twin deer fawns were birthed on our front property, we have an active bluebird and hummingbird community, and love watching the horses and cows across the road.

What is your favorite feature of your home?

The favorite feature of our home is hard to narrow down! The expansive deck as described provides a place to sit, relax, read and take in the majesty of the mountains. The large master suite on the second floor is a serene retreat…I’ve loved hearing the sounds of nature while reading in that room. Not to be left out, the “Bunk-Room” has been simply perfect for the family with two sets of bunk beds and a full size Captain’s bed providing comfortable sleeping for a crowd!

Do you know any history of the home prior to your living there?

We do not know much about the home prior to our purchase.

Why are you selling?

Aging, medical issues and helping to care for multiple grandchildren has caught up with us! These points aren’t stated as a desperate need or concern, we’re just busy with life down here in the Valley and came to grips with how much we were really going to be able to use the home.

Who would you like to see buy your home?

Funny how I’m tearing up and laughing at the same time! I know that Bob and I would like to see someone just like us buy the home who will appreciate the love and time we put into improvements and making it “homey” and not the least…will recognize God all over the place in every view and moment of beauty. However the laughter also comes from this part of my being…someone with cash money and wants to buy yesterday! HA!

What improvements have you made that you are especially proud of?

We really are proud of the improvements made over the years because the work was done out of love! Not the least of which are the deck expansions both front and back. The improvements have provided the perfect place to roam, read and take in the Milky Way (safely) on those starry Rocky Mountain nights. The power house Rinnai tankless hot water heater is the single best improvement I can think of-for a home that size-as hot water will never run out. Shower everyone at the same time, wash clothes, do dishes…no worries. Adding to the improvements the beetle kill wall panels are a neat touch and bring a bit of Colorado “history” into the home.

What would you like the next buyer to know about the property that they won’t find anywhere else online?

One never knows what someone else is shopping for when it comes to a dream mountain home. We did our homework, looked at every home in and above our price range and discovered many things about buying in Estes Park. Did we want to be surrounded by people? Did we want to have a home enclosed by rock out-croppings? Did we want to be near water? Did we want a TURN KEY property or were we willing to deal with old construction and the necessary improvements to make a home livable? These questions and more became reality for us as we deconstructed these and other real questions regarding home ownership in Estes. As we viewed various properties listed (at the time) we increasingly became disappointed with what we were seeing from bad roofing, flooring in need or replacement, décor that hadn’t been updated since the 70’s, overall disrepair, dog cages and/or trailers backing up to prospective properties, power lines crossing immediately overhead, being too crowded around surrounding neighbors and more. Then we saw Fish Creek Road. It was truly a breath of fresh air! Large acreage, a view that didn’t quit, Aspen trees, animals…that weren’t too close (!), and that was all on the outside! Turning the key and walking into the home was an amazing moment, and one we would hope the next buyer will experience as well!

Just that we absolutely love this place. Selling it is really hard for us but it’s a must do for this time in our life now, and we’re okay with that. God’s got us and we know He has you helping us!
