An Interview With The Owner: The Rest of The Story

Why did you purchase this home in the first place?
We hiked Estes Park on our way home from an assignment in Hong Kong in 1999. We loved the mountains and weather so much that we bought a townhouse. We drove around H Bar G often and admired the log home construction and the fabulous views. When the house came on the market we decided to buy it.

What did you enjoy most about living here?
We enjoyed the quiet neighborhood as well as the beautiful views from the deck and the migrating elk.

How long have you owned this home?
We have been in the house 8 years.

Do you have a favorite memory or event that happened at your home?
Favorite times are when the children and grandchildren visit from the east coast and we hike, sit around the fire, and enjoy “life” together.

What is your favorite feature of your home?
We love the open concept of the living room/dining room/kitchen area. We also love to sit on the deck enjoy the view. You can watch the weather come in over the mountains.

Do you know any history of the home prior to your living there?
The house was built by an architect, Radcliff, and his wife. They were from the Midwest. He designed the “holes” in the fireplace so he could look at the mountains while he worked. They had to leave the altitude due to health problems. The second owner was an equine surgeon from Fort Collins who used the house occasionally to rock climb. They relocated to New Zealand. We are the third owners.

Why are you selling?
We only get out here 2-3 months a year and, as we age, we want a place in Estes that we can “turn key”.

Who would you like to see buy your home?
Someone who will appreciate the log construction and views this house offers. Also someone who can spend more time making memories in this home.

What improvements have you made that you are especially proud of?
We have made a lot of improvements to the house. We have replaced the furnace, replaced carpets with hard wood flooring, replaced carpet in loft above garage, put in granite countertops and all new appliances in the kitchen, put granite and tile in all bathrooms, reconfigured the “pantry” to make a computer room/extra bedroom, sealed and stained all logs inside and out as well as the decks. We also have done a lot outside the house by adding a berm with trees and bushes, three stands of Aspen trees, various other trees and flowering bushes, a fire pit, horseshoe pit, added a shed, and an entrance/gate to the property.

What would you like the next buyer to know about the property that they won’t find anywhere else online?
The house has been taken good care of and is in tip top shape. We have two handy men one inside and one outside that we have been very pleased with and would recommend.
